Chapter 1: Science

1a Steve Quake got the idea to create a blood test that

will tell if the baby has down syndrome in utero from an 1800’s french science newspaper which stated that the

baby’s blood seeps into mom’s blood and visa versa

A pioneer of genome sequencing, Quake is an advocate of using the power of DNA sequencing to monitor health. His research led to the development of a prenatal blood test that accurately detects Down syndrome. His team has devised an ingenious way to the scan fetal DNA present in the mother’s blood to determine whether the fetus’ cells contain extra chromosomes associated with several types of severe birth defects.

1b.  Pythagoras has the credit for the Pythagoras theory but Babylonians did it first.

In passing, the authors casually assert that the famous Greek mathematician Pythagoras did not actually discover the Pythagorean theorem.

A little digging suggests the formula (a2 + b2 = c2, which describes the relationship between the three sides of a right triangle) was actually known earlier. The Babylonians, for example, seem to have documented the basic idea in ancient mathematical tablets before Pythagoras came on the scene in 570 B.C.

1d Bruno burned at the stake

Galileo used his work

These events sparked scientists’ imprisonment and their death. Nicolaus Copernicus and Giordano Bruno were such martyrs for science, because they proposed that the Earth revolved around the sun. In efforts to remove the fear, scientist René Descartes , Robert Boyle, John Ray, Michael Faraday, Max Planck all attempted to reconcile religion with science over the centuries. Even Albert Einstein revised his famous theories of relativity after understanding the work of the priest Georges Lemaître.

Since Greg Lake took the melody from Prokefiev, U2 can say they stole from him too.

Greg can’t prove U2 covered his song.

Monseigneur Georges Henri Joseph Édouard Lemaître, (French: [ʒɔʁʒə ləmɛtʁ] ( ); 17 July 1894 – 20 June 1966) was a Belgian priest, astronomer and professor of physics at the French section of the Catholic University of Leuven.[1] He was the first known academic to propose the theory of the expansion of the universe, widely misattributed to Edwin Hubble.[2][3] He was also the first to derive what is now known as Hubble’s law and made the first estimation of what is now called the Hubble constant, which he published in 1927, two years before Hubble’s article.[4][5][6][7] Lemaître also proposed what became known as the Big Bang theory of the origin of the Universe, which he called his “hypothesis of the primeval atom” or the “Cosmic Egg”.[8]
