Failure Resume- Appropriate Risks

10 Failures that failed up-

  1. Didn’t have the money for grad school on a teacher’s salary. Timing is crucial.
  2. Design thinking classes were extremely difficult to get .  I learned to ask for help.
  1. The d.school provided resources in my efforts to write my Masters Thesis in Design Thinking independently. I chose  WGU- an online Masters Program since the d.school does not offer degrees. WGU’s population is mostly veterans receiving aid. I experienced the potential of online learning to spread ideas.  I got to meet David Kelley- founder of the d.school.
  2. Through bootcamp, independent studies, Stanford Online, MOOCs, Stanford Continuing Studies, I gathered the experience to train teachers through Workshop Education- an after school program and helped grow it from 3 to 9 schools. However, design thinking was not taught during school hours and  students who can’t afford after- school, go straight home, unattended until their parents get home from work.
  1. Stanford Designing a New Learning Environment MOOC- My Peace Game Online project came in 2nd. 1st place got disqualified- They didn’t follow guidelines. We were moved up to first!
  1. I was nominated as an influential Filipina to inspire other girls in the Philippines with online learning even though my Peace Game online did not go viral. My failures outnumbered my successes, but my productivity and learning skyrocketed.

  1. My Peace Team partner in Pakistan found a platform to perform the game outside the MOOC setting and we were mentioned in MIT’s open learning!  Trolls came into the MOOC, and with radicalizing online, along with the possibility of fake news spreading, the game needs to be redesigned with filters, security, and the possibility of VR/AR.  https://open.media.mit.edu/peace-game/index.html
  2. Tina Seelig asked for our failure resume. I realized I would be okay about being embarrassed if Peace Game Online failed. By taking another risk, our after school program got into the New York Times~ https://mrsgillet.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/nyt.png
  3. Stanford Professor Paul Kim mentored my team in inquiry learning because we used the skills we learned to empower others. SMILE switched back to strictly academic setting since it didn’t go viral. But, I learned to train my students in making inquires.
  4. I have received successes to inspire others to reach higher (earning recognition) as well.       https://www.ffwn.org/event-2289844
